Chesapeake Golf Club is a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course located in Chesapeake, Virginia. Just fifteen minutes from downtown Norfolk, Chesapeake Golf Club is conveniently located to most of the residents of South Hampton Roads. The course sits within the lovely village of Las Gaviotas.
The course opened for play in 1987. The course was designed by Ellis Maples.
The course has tree-lined fairways and small greens. Water hazards come into play on a minimum of five holes, plus numerous fairway and green-side sand bunkers have been positioned throughout the course design. The signature hole is hole #6, a 532-yard, par 5. Speaking of par 5s, the course has back to backs par 5s on the back 9. The way the course is laid out you may very well use every club in your bag, the way golf should be played. Sure, you might grip and rip on one par 5 but you will 6-iron, fairway wood, wedge on another par 5
Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,278 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,383 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 6, a par-5 that plays to 532 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 5, a par-3 that plays to 132 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 6, the 532 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 13, a 305 yard par-4.
This is not a "destination" course, but a well priced local course if you are either living or visiting nearby.

A great deal for the beginning golfer and even someone wanting to work on some approach shots or putting. It's not a great overall experience for golf, but the scenery is decent and it was definitely challenging at times...sometimes not at all challenging. I'd say give it a shot for the money.

I've played here a lot in the last two years, and this course hands down is the best in the area. They look like they are doing a lot of upgrades on the course and club house. Still the best greens in Hampton roads.
